L. Darlene Weed was recently granted Membership into the American Association of Premier DUI Attorneys after the Association confirmed that she has the skills, knowledge, training, tools, resources, and strategies that are needed to successfully resolve and win DUI cases.
The American Association of Premier DUI Attorneys has compiled information from Judges, Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutors (the Top DUI Prosecutors in each State), DUI Prosecutors, current Law Enforcement Officers, former Law Enforcement Officers, and DUI Defense Attorneys to determine exactly what skills, knowledge, training, tools, resources, and strategies win the most DUI cases at trial and are also used to get DUI cases successfully resolved for the defense prior to trial.
When people need a DUI Attorney, the biggest challenge is knowing whether or not an attorney truly has the skills, knowledge, training, tools, resources, and strategies that are needed to successfully resolve and win DUI cases. Countless attorneys handle DUI cases. But, only a very small percentage have the skills, knowledge, training, tools, resources, and strategies that are needed to successfully resolve and win DUI cases.
Members of the American Association of Premier DUI Attorneys have received advanced level training on the strategies that win the most DUI cases at trial and are also used to get DUI cases successfully resolved for the defense prior to trial. Members of the American Association of Premier DUI Attorneys also have access to the resources and tools that are used to win and successfully resolve DUI cases and these are resources and tools that only a very small percentage of DUI attorneys have access to and use.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE OF WEED LAW FIRM LLC
Weed Law Firm LLC, was established in October of 2014 by sole owner, L. Darlene Weed. Ms. Weed resigned from her position as Assistant District Attorney (“ADA”) working in the Thirteenth Judicial District at the Sandoval County location to open her own law firm. During her time with the DA’s office, she worked on a variety of cases to include most crimes listed under the Criminal Code of New Mexico that are prosecuted by the DA’s office.
Ms. Weed began her position as an ADA for Valencia County in the year 2011 working the Domestic Violence cases. She quickly exceeded expectations and was promoted to Community Crimes. Community Crimes included assault, battery, embezzlement, shoplifting, robbery, arson, burglary, breaking and entering, forgery, computer crimes, kidnapping, tampering with evidence, false imprisonment, DWI, aggravated fleeing law enforcement, drug possession, trafficking and other community crimes. The two types of cases not directly assigned to Ms. Weed were Child Abuse and Murder cases. Although not directly assigned to her, she was involved in some of the murder cases prosecuted by the State as well as several Child Abuse cases. The experience gained while representing the State as an ADA was immeasurable. She handled a high case load and learned to be efficient and thorough when working her assigned cases.
Part of the job of an ADA included such tasks as approving search warrants, assisting in training of law enforcement, approving criminal complaints, covering arraignments, preliminary examinations, bond hearings, probation violations, arguing conditions of release, competency hearings, drafting and arguing motions to the Court, interviewing witnesses and victims, prepping witnesses and victims for trial, advocating for victims, preparing and conducting bench and jury trials, covering mental health hearings, conducting Grand Jury hearings, and being the officer on call when the office was closed. The job was vast, exciting, and educational.
Ms. Weed enjoyed her term as prosecutor but always demonstrated initiative for continued growth and has been one that fares best as being self-employed. It was no surprise to her pervious supervisors and co-workers when she resigned as a State employee and began Weed Law Firm LLC. The firm was established as a “General Practice” law firm and continues the same today. The variety of cases handled by the firm include criminal defense, domestic matters, civil matters, contract disputes, divorce, child support and timeshare, property cases, wills and trust, employment issues, guardianships, adoptions, personal injury, restraining orders, and other varieties of legal issues.
The firm began as a sole practice. Soon after becoming established, Kyle McConnell was hired as a research expert. Mr. McConnell was attending law school when he began working at the firm. He has since graduated and been sworn into the State Bar of New Mexico and currently practices along side Ms. Weed on all cases.
Mr. McConnell gained experience in the law before beginning law school. He worked with the Public Defender’s Office in Nevada. That experience has led him to have vast knowledge of the criminal system, the defendants involved in the cases, and an understanding of how the defense and state work together to resolve criminal matters. He also has a clear understanding of how a single mistake or bad choice can change a person’s life, freedom, and future.
Mr. McConnell is a great asset to the law firm and continually exceeds the expectations of clients, other attorneys, and Ms. Weed. Mr. McConnell and Ms. Weed have worked together for almost three years and built a working relationship based on the common values of helping those in need and communicating honestly and directly with their clients. Our mission is to do the right thing and treat others with kindness and respect. The Weed Law Firm clients know their case will be worked with diligence and that they will be kept informed at all stages during the legal procedure. Ethical, Respectable, and Common Sense are the guidelines used to support the actions of every member of the Weed team. Currently a legal assistant works alongside the attorneys to assist and keep things organized. Growth plans are a consistent priority. Ms. Weed is often appointed by Judge’s as an Advisory Consultant or Guardian Ad Litem on domestic cases. Both Weed and McConnell are trained mediators and often facilitate in mediations regarding a variety of legal issues. Both attorney’s volunteer their time at various pro se clinics and McConnell volunteers to assist with various projects involving the homeless. The attorneys provide a quarterly free legal clinic to Cross Roads for Women in Albuquerque and Los Lunas which is an organization assisting females recently released from prison to rejoin society.
In July of 2015, Ms Weed accepted a contract position with the State of New Mexico to represent clients in Child Abuse and Neglect cases in the Thirteenth District. This position provided experience as a Respondent Attorney, Youth Attorney and Guardian Ad Litem. Court hearings, mediations, bench trials and client consultation were a constant part of this position. Again, Ms. Weed gained immeasurable knowledge not only regarding working with the Children, Youth and Family Department (“CYFD”), but also through working as a contract attorney, successfully managing an extensive case load, and dealing with all types of clients, many who suffered from drug addiction and poverty. Ms. Weed gained a personal insight regarding the abuse and neglect children of New Mexico suffer on a regular basis and the hardships parents must overcome when CYFD becomes involved with their family. The opportunity of being able to help families stay together while at the same time often being unable to prevent many families from being torn apart was a humbling learning experience that Ms. Weed is thankful to have been offered. Due to the extensive travel and time required to work such a contract, Ms. Weed resigned from this position after 2 years of service to allow her to concentrate on establishing the Weed Law Firm.
Ms. Weed also practices law in Federal Court where she represents defendants as a contract attorney for the United States Government under the Criminal Justice Act (CJA). She is assigned primarily misdemeanor cases to include DWI, DUI, banishment, destruction of federal property, and is currently providing representation in a case involving the charge of felon in possession of a firearm. She was party to the recent SNM trials which gave additional experience with the Federal Court trial system.
Last November (2017) the firm found itself having outgrown their startup office. The firm moved locations to an office space across the street from Sandoval Magistrate Court and the Sandoval Detention Center. The new location has allowed the team to grow and gain a working office that allows for better client service and allows easy access to the local courts and detention center. The goals and expectations for the coming years are to remain a law firm practicing in a Ethical, Respectable and Common Sensible manner while continuing to add to the Weed Law Firm team with members who continue to do the right thing.
